Strong demand for Bailey caravans & motorhomes fuels business growth
Since the beginning of September this year total caravan retail sales have been running 24% ahead of last year in a market which, based on recent NCC figures, is reportedly 7% down during the same period. Whilst all product ranges have contributed to this success much of the achievement has been down, perhaps unsurprisingly to the performance of the new Unicorn range which has accounted for two thirds of the total caravan business written - securing 1,000+ retail orders worth £26.7 million.
Bailey motorhome sales have surpassed all expectations in their initial year of launch with the network retailing in excess of 600 vehicles in the first twelve months to make Approach SE the success story of 2012. Encouragingly there is no sign of this activity slowing down with 12.5% more motorhome sales orders
received at the recent Motorhome & Caravan Show as well as good levels of retail business being secured on site.
This dual performance re-affirms Bailey's position as the number one leisure vehicle brand in the UK, as well as being one of the largest in Europe, and highlights the strength of the current portfolio as a whole in terms of value for money when compared
to the competition.
Sales success coupled with increased Retailer stock commitment has meant the forward order book is now four weeks ahead of where it was twelve months ago and extends well into the first quarter of next year . With this being the case, regrettably,
the company has been obliged to review its existing pricing structure in light of forthcoming increases in both raw material and component costs being implemented in January.
The result of this review is as follows:-
Touring Caravans
In order to maintain the current sales momentum the recommended retail prices of the best-selling Unicorn range will be held at current levels - making it the only 2013 caravan range still available at 2012 prices. This situation will be reviewed
again at the beginning of January.
There will be a comparatively modest increase of 1.5% on the recommended retail prices of all Orion, Olympus & Pegasus models. This will be effective on all non-price guaranteed caravans built from 1st January 2013 onwards. Price guaranteed
orders will be invoiced at existing levels (as at 6th August 2012 price list).
Retreat Leisure Homes
The OTR prices for all Retreat Leisure Home models will remain unchanged. However all Retreats built from 6th April 2013 onwards will attract an a new VAT rate of 5% following changes in the tax laws (whereas they are currently zero-rated) which
will be reflected in the OTR prices of these models.
Motorhomes
Following a rise the cost of supply of the Peugeot Boxer cab the OTR prices for all Approach SE models will increase by £395. This will be effective on all non-price guaranteed motorhomes built from 1st January 2013 onwards. Price guaranteed orders
will be invoiced at existing levels (as at 6th August 2012 price list).

New Bailey Unicorn Cartagena to debut at the Motorhome & Caravan Show
Bailey will be adding the new Unicorn Cartagena to its product line up as it looks to expand the choice of layouts available in its highly acclaimed premium caravan range. This model will be on display for the first time at the Motorhome & Caravan Show, NEC, Birmingham on Tuesday 16th October 2012 (Stand 19-29).
New to Bailey, the Unicorn Cartagena incorporates the popular elements of the existing Pamplona and Barcelona models in a re-configured twin axle layout which contains a transverse island bed, mounted on the nearside wall, and an adjoining end
washroom that includes a free-standing domestic style circular shower cubicle.
In the centre of the caravan is a well-equipped kitchen featuring new ergonomically designed dual-level units which house upgraded appliances such as the Thetford Caprice
combination oven and grill and new dual-fuel hob, featuring an electric hotplate and a Dometic 190 litre fridge freezer.
The layout is completed by a generously proportioned front lounge, with full length parallel front beds and a cleverly designed recessed 3-drawer front chest, which is totally transformed by the trademark opening vertical skylight to create
the perfect room with a view.
Since its introduction two years ago the Bailey Unicorn has become a firm favourite with the discerning caravan owner providing the unique combination of superior performance,
award-winning design and market leading value for money. The second generation of Unicorn models, arriving in September, take this philosophy a stage further by moving the designs for an Alu-Tech caravan on to the next level both in terms of accessibility and desirability.
More robust, more durable and yet lighter than those manufactured using conventional methods Alu-Tech leisure vehicles provide owners with greater protection against the elements to keep them comfortable, safe and secure all year round. The existing body shell has been enhanced with the addition of an impact resistant GRP outer skin plus re-profiled one piece front and rear bumpers to make certain that the new Bailey Unicorn is built to last.
To ensure that this eye-catching investment remains safe on the road and secure on site it is fitted with the latest safety and security equipment, including the AL-KO ATC Trailer Control System, a TRACKER Monitor Stolen Vehicle Recovery System
plus new peak performance Michelin branded tyres and a high security door lock, as standard specification.
Supplied with everything you will need for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday the new Unicorn range is fitted with a fully-specified Alde central heating system, including a 24 hour timer and heated towel rail, which combines with the market leading thermal properties of the Alu-Tech body shell to make this caravan the ultimate four season tourer.
In summary the new Bailey Unicorn is a caravan that is full of surprises and one which offers something distinctly different. However perhaps the most surprising thing of all about a caravan featuring this much innovation is the fact that models also now weigh considerably less than their predecessors - with reductions of as much as 100kgs in the vehicle's MPTLM figures. This, combined with an equally competitive recommended retail price, means that the new Unicorn puts a premium product
within reach of many more people allowing them to experience the very best in touring caravan design for the first time.

BAILEY ALU-TECH CARAVANS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE TOWCAR CHALLENGE
Testing for the 30th Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Competition took place during August at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, where a wide cross section of vehicles from leading car manufacturers were put rigorously through their
paces by an independent panel of driving judges over a four-day period.
Bailey of Bristol was delighted to be invited to supply the caravans used in this prestigious event for a 15th consecutive year. Whilst the purpose of the testing is to assess the performance of the individual tow vehicles, this competition
also provides a thorough examination of the participating caravans in terms of product durability and stability.
During the evaluation period over 175 circuits, featuring a lap of the high speed circular track and a demanding hill route (equating to over 900 test miles), were successfully completed by the test units without incident. Appropriately all of
the ten models used at Millbrook this year were Alu-Tech vehicles (from the Orion, Olympus, Pegasus and Unicorn ranges) as it was here that much of the development work for this ground-breaking new construction system took place.
The results of the Competition will be announced at the annual awards lunch held at the Royal Automobile Club in London on 26th September. A full listing of the winners will be available on www.towcarcompetition.co.uk in early October.
The micro site also provides a behind the scenes look at what takes place during competition week, including video footage of a test circuit, to give people a greater insight into what it takes to become The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year.
Nikki Nichol, Head of Publicity and Industry Relations for The Caravan Club says, "Our thanks once again go to Bailey of Bristol for their support of The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Competition. Testing at Millbrook is indeed rigorous, and
the caravans are an integral part of the testing, their durability is key. The Club's thanks also go to the staff at Bailey who attend Millbrook, their dedication is most valued."
Bailey Marketing Director, Simon Howard, who worked at Millbrook during test week as part of the technical support team commented,
"Working at Millbrook you get first-hand experience of the level of professionalism involved in the testing and the lengths which The Caravan Club goes to ensure that every entrant is evaluated both thoroughly and fairly in order to determine the overall winner"
"From the Bailey point of view Towcar of the Year always represents a very stern test for our caravans. Seeing how well they perform being towed by a wide variety of tow vehicles on a very demanding circuit is always very reassuring." He added.
For further information on the development of Alu-Tech construction system please visit www.baileyalu-tech.co.uk. BAILEY STRENGTHEN CARAVAN & MOTORHOME RETAILER NETWORKS TO IMPROVE CUSTOMER CHOICE AND SERVICE
Bailey of Bristol has strengthened both its caravan and motorhome retailer networks for the start of the 2013 model year. The company has appointed an additional six outlets, three for touring caravans and three for motorhomes to further improve
the choice and service it can offer to new and existing customers.
Touring Caravans
New Bailey Retailers from 1st September 2012 onwards:
Ebor Leisure World - Flaxton, North Yorkshire
Hitchin Caravans - Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Stowford South Wales - Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taff, South Wales
The addition of these three retailers increases the size of the network to 75 outlets making it the largest for a single caravan brand in the UK. It is worth noting also that approximately 25% of these Retailers are solus Bailey agents, a far greater percentage than that for any of other manufacturer, recognition in their opinion of the strengths of our current product portfolio and the market-leading service we provide in terms of parts supply and after-sales support.
To supplement its existing retailers Bailey has also developed a network of an additional forty Approved Service Centres. With an ever increasing number of Bailey caravans now in use, the company felt it was important to provide owners with as much
choice as possible when considering servicing arrangements - to ensure product checks can be carried out at a time and a location to suit them.
Motorhomes
New Bailey Retailers from 1st September 2012 onwards:
Dumfries Caravan Centre - Brasswell, Dumfries
Emmbee Motorhomes & Caravans - Bury, Manchester
Stowmarket Caravans & Motorhomes - Stowmarket, Suffolk
The arrival of the Bailey Approach SE range quite literally heralded a 'new approach' to the motorhome market.
The combination of a well-specified Peugeot cab, a high-performance Alu-Tech bodyshell, beautifully styled British interiors and a specification level not normally found
on vehicles in its price bracket makes the new Approach SE the complete motorhome range. This value-laden package has proved universally popular with both new and existing motorhome owners as well as being strong enough to win The Caravan Club
Motorcaravan Design & Drive Competition 2012 - where the Approach SE 745 was named as the Overall Winner.
As a result of this initial success Bailey has been able to add a further three Retailers to its motorhome network for the start of the 2013 model year bringing the total number of retail outlets to 38.
