Bikes In Caravans

Is it allowed to tow a caravan with bikes in it?
We have a caravan and want to take the bikes away. I am loathe to fit a bike rack to the caravan or car when the caravan is empty? As long as I can get them in, is it legal? Or a bad idea for some reason that I have not thought of?

It is not a problem to load bikes in your caravan. Just make sure that you do not exceed your caravan payload limit and that your bikes are loaded securely over your caravan axle.
