Charging Leisure Battery In 1993 Elddis Hurricane Caravan

Do I just plug in mains hook up lead and the zig 2000 unit automatically charges the battery or do I have to set one of the switches? Thankyou.

I have not used a zig unit for ages and going by memory I think that all you have to do is just make sure the the power switch is on for it to work. However, if there is anyone out there who uses this type of unit and can offer some advice, please contact us and we will pass it on.

Fully Charged Battery Doesn't Register On Amp Window Unless Connected To Mains

by J Rowlands
(West Yorks)

We had a problem last time out with our electrics on our Bailey Pageant Champagne 2009 model. The local dealer fixed it saying it was the heater thermostat that had blown. Now the battery doesn't register if connected on its own. If connected to the mains it is over half way full. We bought a new battery thinking it was done and the new one does the same....very annoying.
Any ideas?

This may sound a stupid question, but have you made sure that the 12v master switch is on. This switch has to be in the on position for the volt meter to work. Apart from that, this has stumped me and all I can suggest is that you take it back to the dealer and ask them to have another look at it.

Battery charge up when being towed

by Frank
(Liverpool)

Hi
Should my caravan battery be charging when being towed?
Thanks

You can only charge your battery when towing if you have the supplementary 12S socket (grey) fitted to your towbar. This socket also operates your reversing lights on your caravan and also allows you to run the caravan fridge when towing (you must turn the dial on the fridge to car setting).

Caravan battery

by Dave Long
(Bucks, England)

What type of battery do I need to purchase for my caravan (which is a Swift Doubleete, 4 berth with a mover?)
Many thanks.

As movers tend to drain caravan leisure batteries quite quickly, I would advise you to go for the highest Ah (amp hour) rated leisure battery you can afford. An 110Ah leisure battery should be fine.

Battery

by Fiona
(Axbridge)

Do you know what Leisure battery I would need for my Avondale 435 caravan?

It all depends on how much you are going to use it. If for most of the time you are going to be hooked up to site electric and you do not have a motor mover, then I would go for a standard 75Ah leisure battery. However, if you are going to use your caravan with no electric hook up, then I would by an 110Ah leisure battery. The Ah stands for amp hours which indicates how long the battery will last before requiring a re-charge. If you decided on the larger Ah rated battery, measure your battery box before you buy one to make sure the battery will actually fit in it.

Leisure Battery

Do you now what size leisure battery is needed for a 2 berth 1990 Eccles Topaz caravan?

It all depends on how much you intend on using the battery. However, I would imagine a standard 75Ah leisure battery would be suitable for your requirements.

Caravan Battery Box

Do you know whether a 110 AH caravan battery would fit in the battery compartment on a Pageant Bordeaux year 2006 caravan? Many thanks for your help with this.

It should not be a problem, but just to make sure I would take the measurements of the box with you before you buy one.

Battery Size for Compartment

by Janey
(Lancaster)

Are 75ah batteries a standard size? Our newly purchased Bailey Senator Wyoming 2006 says it will accommodate a 90 amperes/hours capacity battery. If I buy a 75ah battery will this definitely fit in the compartment? My caravan is sited 120 miles away but prices are cheaper here where I live.
Many thanks anyone! JG

A 75Ah battery will be smaller than a 90Ah battery, so if you are going to buy a 75Ah battery it should definitely fit in your battery compartment.

Battery Charging

by Tony
(Solihull , UK)

My caravan will be in winter storage, I need to keep the battery connected due to the tracker and alarm system, how do I keep the battery charged? Thanks

The only way of really keeping your battery charged is to hook up to an electric point and trickle charge via your on board charger. If there is no electric point available, you could try a solar panel to keep your battery charged.

Damp and cracked side electric battery and mains box

by John
(Scotland)

Hi, I have just bought a 1989 Abbey 418 T which is in great order - except there is some damp which I think is due to the side electric box and lid being cracked. Can this be replaced and the damp fix - or is the caravan a gonner. The damp is slight to each side and lower than the plastic box.

Can anyone tell me a ball park cost of getting a small area of damp and the box professionally fixed - just roughly , so that I know whether to cry or get it done !,

thanks

The cost is dependent on the size of the problem. I should take your caravan to your local dealer and ask the to take a look and give you a quote. They should also be able to tell you it it is worth doing or not.

Battery Low Light

We have just been for our first trip in our Cotswold Windrush caravan and even when hooked up to mains the battery low light stays on, we are real novices, can any of you good people help us please.

You might have an old Leisure battery which is not holding a charge. Try and borrow one from someone you know and see if that works. If it does, then you will probable have to change your battery.

Battery Charger Not Working

by Bert
(Glossop)

Hi

Where can I get a like for like battery charger for my 2003 Bailey Ranger 460-2?

Thanks

The best place to find any spare parts for a caravan is usually a Breakers yard. If you look on our website on the page called Caravan Spares there is a list of breakers on there. Telephone them or e-mail them with your requirements and, if they have it, they will usually be able to post the item to you. Hope this helps.

Battery For Caravan Cooker

by Wullie Dey
(Fife)

Where is the battery compartment for a caravan cooker? Thanks

The majority of ovens in caravans run off gas and do not have batteries. If your oven has spark ignition, that is controlled by your 12v system, which in turn is run off your main caravan battery.

Battery Charging Avondale 435 1996

by Jay
(Ipswich)

Can someone tell me if when I plug the van into mains, should this charge the battery, and also should all the lights work off the mains and not drain the battery?

Once hooked up to the mains, your battery should be trickle charged by your charger in your caravan. As for your lights, I should imagine that the majority of your lights run off the 12v system even when plugged into the mains. This should not drain your battery as it is constantly being trickle charged. Some of the main lights however might run on 230v.

Battery or Generator

by Gary

I'm getting my first caravan in April and would like to know the following - we're buying a touring caravan (Knaus 750fku) and I'm wondering if I should buy a good quality battery with charger or should I buy a Honda generator? Additionally, do I need to use a battery with the generator? Apologies if this is a stupid question! Please advise. Many thanks,Gary

Hi Gary

Ask the dealer that you are buying the caravan from to supply you with a leisure battery. Just remember that the higher the Ah (Amp hours) rating, the longer the battery will last when not connected to an electric hook up. The caravan should have a built in charger which will charge your battery when you are towing and also when you are connected to an electric hook up.

If you intend using your caravan on sites that do not have an electric hook up and dependent on the length of your stay, then a generator might be a good idea but is not always necessary.
