Problem With Gas

by Robert
(Preston Lancs)

My caravan cooker works on gas with no problem but the gas fire and fridge do not want to start on gas - what could be the problem? I really need help with this.

Gas appliances in caravans can have their gas supply individually isolated by turning off the relevant tap. The tap is either located on a gas manifold or directly beside the appliance. Check to see if the taps for the fridge and fire are in the on position.

Heater Gas Engineer

by Petra
(Sevenoaks)

I am interested in a motorhome and the guy who is selling has never used the heater so not sure how to use or if it indeed works. Can anyone tell me how I go about getting it checked? Thanks

Your best bet would be to use a qualified Mobile Gas Engineer. Why not try The Mobile Caravan Engineers Association (MCEA). They have a website at www.mcea.co.uk and there you will be able to find an engineer nearest to your location.

Gas Regulator - Lunar Quasar EB

by Peter
(Crewe)

The gas regulator on our 2006 EB has stopped working. Is this a design problem as it the second time we have had this problem on EBs? What can we do to repair or replace the regulator?

We had the same problem on our Bailey Pageant Provence. We took our caravan back to our dealer who confirmed it was a design problem and replaced it with an updated regulator. Apparently the old design was prone to clogging up. I would suggest that you speak to your local dealer and ask them what would be the best course of action.

Gas Tap Location

by Simon
(Burnley)

We have just bought a 1993 Lunar Meteorite caravan two berth. Does anyone know where the gas isolation taps for the fridge and heater are located in it?

The isolation valves are generally hidden away at the bottom of a cupboard. We have a Bailey and ours are in the pan draw at the bottom of the oven.

Does anyone own a Lunar Meteorite and can advise Simon as to where they are exactly on his caravan?

Gas

by Jim Roy
(Scotland)

Please can you advise what is the best type of gas to use PROPANE OR BUTANE ???

Butane is a more efficient heat producer than Propane and is the preferred choice on many caravaners. However, if you are going to use your caravan in the winter or in colder weather, then Propane is ideal. This is because it can withstand temperatures as low as -40 C.

Just remember that whatever gas you use, you will need the correct regulator. The regulators for Butane and Propane are different.

Gas Cooker

by Dave
(London)

Hi, my gas cooker in my caravan won't light. The central heating is fine. The gas bottles are full. Please coud you tell me what's wrong.

In your caravan, there should be a manifold with individual taps for each gas appliance. The manifold is usual located in the locker under the oven. Once you have found it, make sure the tap for the oven is open and try lighting your oven again. If this does not work, I would advise that you take your caravan to your local dealer and ask them to take a look at it.

Size of Gas Bottle

by Katrina

Firstly can I say how brill your website is, it's been a big help to us as we are total novices and we have just bought our first caravan! What size gas bottle is best please? We have a 4 berth Lunar Apollo 464, and we need to keep the weight down as much as possible!

To reduce weight, your best bet would be to go for a light weight gas bottle. Both Calor and BP have produce this form of bottle. The BP bottle is semi transparent which make it easier to see when your bottle needs replacing. As for the size you need, it will be dependent on how much gas you generally use. A 6kg bottle should be sufficient.

Gas Tap

by Robin
(Cumbria, UK)

can you help me i have just bought an abi award brightstar i cannot find the tap to turn the gas on to the cooker.

Each gas appliance has a seperate valve on a manifold. The manifold is normally located in a base unit or at the bottom of the oven (pan draw).

Propane suitable or not?

by Debbie
(Cannock, Staffordshire)

Hello, we have an Ace Superstar Supreme tourer and want to know if it is suitable to use propane gas in it as we are unsure? Many thanks for your help with this.

Providing that you have the correct regulator fitted for Propane gas, then it should be absolutely fine. You should be able to buy a regulator fron either your local caravan dealer or a bottled gas supplier.

GAS BOTTLE SIZE

Hello,
Collecting a Bailey Ranger 470/4 2007 model next weekend - our first caravan for 30 years. Do you know what size gas bottles I will need - this one has a locker whilst our old Monza circa 1978 had a small bottle bolted to the A-frame.
Many thanks for your help.
Tony, Cockermouth, Cumbria

The standard 7kg Butane cylinder will be fine. However, we use a Propane 6kg cylinder purely on the basis that it works at lower temperatures. Make sure you have the correct regulator. Butane and Propane have diffrent regulators. Your local dealer will be able to advise you which one you need. BP and Calor make a lighter bottle which you might want to consider. This will help to keep your weight down and also they are translucent, so you can see how much gas you have left inside the bottle.

Your best bet would be to try a caravan breakers yard. Most offer a mail order service, so there is no travelling involved. A list of breakers can be found on our website.

Gas bottle rip off?

by Linda
(Hampshire)

Hello
I have a static caravan and the site charge £72 for a gas cylinder, in the past 12 weeks my guests have apparently used 3. My daughter uses the same one for cooking (there's 7 of them and they do a lot of cooking) in her house and one has lasted her well over a year.

Does this sound right to you?
Thanks

Are there any static caravan owners out there who could help answer this question?
If so please send us a reply and we will post your comments.

Outside Gas Connector

by Tony
(Southport)

I have a Lunar Clubman 530-4 (2006) caravan and I need to know what gas connector to use so I can use a cooker or barbeque outside the caravan. Many thanks.

I believe all you need to do is to remove the regulator from your barbeque and the attach the end of the hose to the outside gas point on your caravan and tighten in place using a jubilee clip.
Then simply turn the valve to the on position to allow the gas to flow through.

External BBQ point on LUNAR LEXON EB 2001

by STEVE
(NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE , UK)

Hi ,could anyone point me in the right direction of the external gas BQ point on my LUNAR LEXON EB 2001 , we have only had it a short while , and now own a gas BQ , so it would of real good help to be given the directions as to its location . THANKS for your help in advance.

If your caravan is fitted with a BBQ point, it is normally located on the left hand side of the caravan near to the front locker. If it is not there, it might be located inside the locker itself. However, if you can't find it then you probably don't have one fitted.
