Do Caravans Need an MOT?

Please could you help as I have recently bought a small caravan and was wondering whether or not it would need an M.O.T? Many thanks for your help with this.

At the moment, caravans do not require an MOT. However, it is the owners responsibility to make sure that the caravan is safe to travel on the road. Ideally it should be serviced anually

MOT

Does a caravan need a MOT or road worthy certificate?

At the moment caravans do not need an MOT or tax. However, they should be insured and also serviced yearly to make sure they are roadworthy and safe.

MOT

I have read the camping and caravaning mag and it said that as from the 1 January 2012 we need to have a MOT for the caravan. Who can do the MOT?

Do you need a MOT cetificate for a caravan

by John
(Cumbernauld)

Hi,
Please could you tell me if I need to get a caravan tested MOT before towing.
Thanks

The is no requirement to have an MOT for a caravan at the moment. However, it is the owners responsibility to make sure that a caravan or trailer is roadworthy. That is why you should always have your caravan serviced once a year to make sure that everything is in working order.

Static Caravan MOT Tests

by Mr Booth
(South Yorkshire)

Do you happen to know whether it is the law that says my static caravan has to have an MOT test when it is 15 years old? Many thanks for your help with this.

I am not really sure on this. Hopefully someone who owns a static can answer this. If so, please let us know and we will post any comments.

Some friends of ours bought a static last year and although it is brand new, they were advised to have the gas and electrical systems checked each year.

Static Caravan MOT
by: Anonymous

There is no such thing as an mot on a static or touring caravan no matter how old. Some sites expect statics to have gas safety checks each year otherwise it is against the law to sublet your caravan. Some sites are now making it compulsary that a gas safety certificate is obtained each year often through the site as they make extra money from this and of course it makes it safer for yourself and other caravan owners on site.
