COACHMAN VIP 575/4 a real hit at New Dealer Events

This year's Caravan Extravaganza held at The Lawns, Cottingham, was one of our most successful shows to date and we're pleased to reveal the VIP 575/4 as our best-selling model – not just at The Lawns, but at all our Dealer Events held since then too!

We've put the VIP 575/4's popularity down to the introduction of the transverse bed layout and state-of-the-art Alde heating system, which we decided to make available after an overwhelming demand from our customers. In addition to the new interior features, the VIP range has also been constructed using the latest PU materials and bonding techniques to ensure added strength, durability and water resilience.

This is supported by the introduction of a 10-year water ingress warranty, to give our customers complete peace of mind. Customer feedback is a really valuable tool that has enabled us to develop designs which fully meet the needs of caravan users, and our sales figures just go to show that listening to your customers really pays off!

Our new season Vision, Pastiche, VIP and Laser ranges were all launched at this year's Lawns Show and saw us achieve a 25% increase in sales compared to the 2013 event.

For visitors unable to attend The Lawns' Caravan Extravaganza, the VIP 575/4 will be on display at the Motorhome & Caravan Show, NEC Birmingham 14th – 19th October and will start arriving at dealerships from late October to early December.

Bailey Pursuit and Honda Civic Tourer wows the crowds at British Touring Car Championship

The crowds watching the latest round of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) last weekend were surprised to see a Honda Civic Tourer replica race car towing a Bailey Pursuit 550-4 caravan in matching livery around a lap of the Snetterton circuit.

This joint initiative by Bailey of Bristol and Honda's BTCC team is designed to show that a modern lightweight caravan such as the four-berth Pursuit 550-4 ( ) can be towed by a compact family car like the Civic Tourer. Furthermore, the total weight of this car and caravan combination is less than 3,500 kg so is suitable for all drivers and does not require a driving licence with B+E entitlement.

The outfit will make a number of special appearances at race tracks throughout the BTCC season as well as appearing on the Bailey stand at the forthcoming Motorhome & Caravan Show. ( ) ( ) For more on this story why not have a look at our new Pintrest board ( )?

The Camping and Caravanning Club has continued to build excitement around the ŒYear of the Bike¹ with the release of new route details for its cycle-camping challenge!

Starting at Wantage in Oxfordshire, which is the site of the Club¹s inaugural meeting back in 1901, a team of Camping and Caravanning Club cycle-campers will ride up the country, taking in key points of the Tour route and pitch up at campsites along the way. The cycle-campers will pass through key towns, cities and destinations including Cambridge, Peterborough, Nottingham, Chatsworth Park in the Peak District, Glossop, Huddersfield and Keighley before heading to their final destination. Further detailed information on the route and the Club Challenge team can be found on the Club¹s new dedicated challenge website:

Television presenter and first female Club President, Julia Bradbury will lead the riders over the finishing line at the Club¹s Scarborough campsite on Friday, 30 May. The Club¹s founding member, Thomas Hiram-Holding was himself a cycle-camper and established a Club that has expanded from just six members in 1901, to more than half a million enthusiastic campers and caravanners over a century later. All of the riders undertaking ŒThe Challenge¹ have agreed to wear traditional cycling clothing, like Hiram-Holding himself, throughout the six days. The six day cycle-camp challenge will take place during National Camping and Caravanning Week (Monday 26 May to Sunday 1 June), which is now into its 14th year and celebrates the nation¹s love for camping and the great outdoors.

The Club is raising money for key partner, Sustrans which is the UK¹s leading charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport. To support The Challenge, please click here: <> And there are plenty of opportunities to support the Club¹s Challenge Team by following them on its social media channels ( <> , <> , <> and searching for the hashtag #needfortweed.

Robert Louden MBE, the Club¹s Director General, said: "Cycle-camping is a huge part of our heritage so it seemed only fitting that in the ŒYear of the Bike, we really set out to complete a challenge in the memory of our founding member, Thomas Hiram-Holding. I know sections of the route are very tough but I¹m confident that our team of cycle-campers will be able to complete the course. Cycle-camping is very popular with Club members, it¹s a fantastic way to explore the British countryside at an inexpensive cost!" Sponsors of The Challenge include: Swift, Halfords, Vango, Elddis, Outwell, Marquis Motorhomes and Jaguar Land Rover.

If you¹re interested in taking on your own cycle-camping challenge, the Club and Sustrans have provided a Tour of Britain resource, which will allow you to plan your trip: cling-tour-britain/ < ycling-tour-britain/>

Bailey Alu-Tech caravans pass 'true blue' Australian durability test 'When the going gets tough, the tough gets going' so the song goes and that is certainly what two Bailey Alu-Tech caravans proved by successfully completing an 850 mile off-road journey across the Australian Outback. The challenge was organised by Bailey Australia (the official distributor for Bailey touring caravans in Australia) and involved towing a Unicorn Series II Cartagena and a Pegasus GT65 Verona through the centre of the country on a combination of bitumen, gravel, dirt and corrugated roads, to provide all vehicles involved with the ultimate structural examination.

Plus to see the type of conditions the caravans had to endure when taking on the 'true blue' challenge watch the following video footage.

FIVE years ago the moggy wandered into the compound of Cosford Caravans and made herself at home. The kind-hearted staff took to her at once and started to feed the tortoiseshell intruder on a daily basis.

Caravan News

Nick Howard, the managing director of caravan producer Bailey, enquired about the cat and asked where it slept. Staff explained to him that he spent his days on the site sleeping on chairs in the showroom and mooching around the caravans. The pampered cat was however, put out at the end of each working day.

Mervyn Hughes, owner of Cosford Caravans takes up the story. "Two weeks later, much to our amazement a miniature Bailey Orion caravan arrived at our Newport Road site, purpose-built by the Bailey engineers in Bristol, especially for our cat. In my 28 years here at Cosford, I have never seen anything quite like it. It turned up with a message saying 'something for the cat to sleep in at night in comfort."

Swift Group launch new SMART construction across their entire caravan range

06 August 2013

SmartSwift Group is launching a new SMART intelligent construction system across their entire UK touring caravan range.

SMART is based on proven technology and provides a Strong timber-less body frame with Modern desirable looks and a leading Aerodynamic shape that is Resilient to moisture, all wrapped up in a Caravan that has undergone the most comprehensive Testing.

The new Strong timberless body frame uses ‘PURe’, a tough, hard polyurethane based product that is totally impervious to water and has been proven through use. The construction method prevents the transfer of moisture from the 5000 Series marine grade aluminium sidewalls to the wall board inside, making the caravan highly Resilient to moisture.

All fixings, including windows and doors are made into the ‘PURe’ frame which is varied in density in different areas to suit the strength required. Already lighter than timber and with this density tuning it provides around a 10-14kg weight saving without any loss in strength.

A special waterproof sealant is used around fixing screws and they are engineered so that they do not go all the way through the ‘PURe’ frame. The ‘PURe’ material being totally impervious to water and having no veins means there is no passage for water from the outer skin to the inner wallboard, combating moisture ingress.

Everything including the insulating HD polystyrene insulation core is CNC (computer numerically controlled) cut to provide accuracy and consistency time after time to give a high quality engineered product.

The new bodyshell has been through extensive safety and durability Testing at the Millbrook track and through cold chamber Testing down to minus 15 degrees C and beyond. This puts prototypes through conditions most products will never have to experience in a life time; all part of the Swift Ethos to deliver the best products which are both safe to use and fit for purpose providing confidence for customers.

This has been done with no compromise in the Modern desirable looks inside and out and Swift Group touring caravans continue to lead the way in Aerodynamics using Computational Fluid Dynamics to help shape the bodyshell for better fuel consumption and safer towing.

Nick page, Swift Group Commercial Director commented, ‘We are constantly looking at new and better ways to construct our products and only introduce new developments when we know they are fit for purpose. SMART intelligent construction bears the ethos of what we want to achieve for all our products going forward. The introduction of ‘PURe’ is a simple change that will make a big difference to moisture resilience and has already been well proven through use. Our customers can be confident that this small but significant change will enhance the quality and longevity of their purchase.’

As the leaders in 'Lightweight Luxury', Lunar Caravans has set a precedence within the industry for driving down the weight of luxury tourers. This has been achieved without compromising either the quality of the finished product or the comfort afforded to the customer.

For 2014, Lunar has once again delivered significant weight reductions across its new range – with some models now up to 55kg lighter.

This reduction follows an extensive research and development programme, which has resulted in Lunar introducing a pioneering new thermoplastic material into the inner wall construction to create an enhanced bodyshell with superior properties

The new enhanced bodyshell ensures that the 2014 breed of Lunar caravan will deliver the same quality build, durability and luxury finish as it's predecessor whilst being even lighter and with reduced risk of condensation and internal cold spots.

Introducing 'Core':

The ethos behind the new method of construction is 'Core' – an approach to product development, which focuses on strengthening the emotive bond between a customer and their experience of Caravanning.

Lunar CEO and Chairman, Brian Mellor explains, “The new season Lunar models are the first to evolve from our 'Core' philosophy and technology and signify a long line of future product innovations.

“'Core' is how we apply our beliefs and technology to the design of caravans, that enables our customers to experience the enjoyment of caravanning – wherever and whenever they choose and with no compromises.

“For example, we've reduced the weight of our tourers to enable our customers to have a wider choice of towcar and to ensure their holidays are not limited in frequency or distance by their fuel consumption. However, 'Core' ensures these weight reductions are delivered with the same traditional high quality build and levels of luxury for which the Lunar brand is renown,” he added.

'Core' Innovation - Tried and Tested

Lunar continues to carefully design, construct and thoroughly test every aspect and component of its caravan range.

The thermoplastic material now employed in the construction of Lunar's new range has been proven through widespread use in the automotive and marine industries. To ensure its suitability, Lunar has put the material through further rigorous testing using two leading facilities.

'Core' Road Test At the AL-KO test centre in Stuttgart, Germany, a 2014 prototype was subject to a lifetime test equivalent of 30,000km (18,641 miles):

- 10,000km (6,214 miles) of which were spent on a 'rolling road' simulator which subjected the prototype chassis and body shell to exaggerated road bumps and vibrations. - 20,000km (12,472 miles) were spent on a track which incorporated all the demands that real life roads impose on today's caravans. The prototype travelled over cobbles, potholes and repaired asphalt surfaces on the test track.

The prototype construction proved to be extremely resilient to these tough structural tests, reinforcing the fact that 'Core' design has successfully reduced weight with no compromise to strength and durability.

'Core' Climate Test Further testing was conducted in one of the world's largest climate chamber test facilities operated by Truma/Alde. A 2014 prototype Clubman caravan was subjected to extreme temperature variance over a 100 hour test programme. The results from the tests showed that, with the use of 'Core' design and the new thermoplastic material, the new season caravans have a more even spread of warm air inside which resulted in the elimination of cold spots. This also resulted in fewer moisture deposits on the walls and windows, which significantly reduced the occurrence of condensation.

New Exterior and Interior Enhancements:

Lunar's new 2014 model range will also offer a number of visual and specification enhancements, cutting a dash on the campsite whilst creating an even comfier home-from-home environment.
