Alko Spare Wheel Carrier for Fleetwood

Does anyone have any idea which model of Alko spare wheel carrier I would need for a 1996 Fleetwood Garland 148-1 EK? I see on Alko's website there are different sizes.

If you email Alko direct and tell the the make, model and year of your caravan, they will be able to advise you of the correct size.

Space Saver Spares For Towing With

by Mark
(Mansfield, Nottinghamshire)

What are your thoughts on using space saver spare wheels for towing a caravan with such a spare please? Most internet chat seems to be against it, but no hard & fast rule either way.

Keep up the good work with the site, it's very helpful for novices like ourselves.

Kind regards

I personally would never tow a caravan whilst using a space saver. The idea of the space saver is just to get you to a safe location where you can have your tyre repaired or changed. The space saver tyre also has load restrictions and I am pretty certain that they are not designed to be towed with.

Changing Caravan Wheels

by Jim Boyd
(N Ireland)

Do you know whether I could fit 14 inch alloy wheels to my year 2000 Bailey Ranger 470/4 caravan ? Many thanks for any help you could give me with this.

Providing you have 14" wheels already on your Ranger 470/4 and the wheel nuts are in the same position on the alloys you want to fit, then there should be no problem. Just remember to fit the correct caravan tyres (you cannot use ordinary car tyres).

Wheel Size of Hobby 720

by Mike
(Merseyside)

Could you please tell me what size wheels a Hobby 720 caravan has and whether they are four stud or five stud? Hope you can help me. Kind Regards, Mike.

Not really sure on this. The best advice I can offer is that you contact the Hobby Owners Club direct and see if they can help. Their website address is www.hobby-owners-club.co.uk

Spare Wheel - Lunar LX 2000 Caravan

I have just purchased a Lunar LX 2000 Caravan and I am not sure if it has a spare wheel. Does anyone know where the spare should be located if there is one?

Most spare wheels are either located in the front locker order or are located under the caravan in a special carrier.

Wheel Size

by Phil Barton
(Manchester )

Hi, I am trying to purchase some wheel trims as a present for my dad. He has a Eldiss Whisp 450e 1991. Please can you advise on wheel size 13 or 14? Thanks.

The easiest way to find out is to look on the tyre itself. Somewhere on the tyre there will be a marking like 165/70R13 or similar. The number 13 indicates the rim diameter in inches. So whatever the number that is on your father's caravan tyres will indicate what the rim size you need for the wheel trims.

Avondale 380-2 Spare Wheel

by Geoff Hall
(Faversham, Kent)

I have the usual uninformative instruction manual for my Avondale caravan - Do you know how I get to the underslung spare wheel on this model of caravan?

If you have an ALKO spare wheel carrier fitted to your caravan and it has not been moved for a while, you should spray all moving parts with WD40 or similar and leave for while. Then unscrew the black cap and pull the carrier forward and then lower. This should reveal your spare wheel.

Where Is The Caravan Spare Wheel?

by Steve Beamer
(Liverpool)

Please could someone tell me where the spare wheel and jack are usually kept on a 2001 Bailey Pageant caravan ? Many thanks for your help with this, Steve.

Believe it or not, alot of caravans are not sold with a spare wheel or jack. They are termed as extras. So unless your caravan came with a spare wheel (usually fitted under the caravan or in your front locker) you probably won't have one.
If you intend on buying one, make sure that the correct tyre is fitted (car tyres are not suitable). As for the jack, I would recommend something like the Kojack made by Purpleline.

Balanced Tyres

Do caravan tyres have to be balanced?

I am not really sure to be honest. We have never had ours balance but we always make sure that the tow car wheels are balanced.

Tyre size

by Cheryl
(Blackburn)

I'm just in the process of buying a Lunar Clubman 530 L (year 2000) and want to buy the wheel clamp before I collect it. Do you know what size the tyres will be?

If you are buying it through a dealer/shop, they should be able to advise you what size clamp you need. All you have to do is to tell them what caravan you have.
