Winter Tyre Care

During winter your caravan tyres still need to be checked and looked after even if you are not regularly using your caravan. What do I need to do? Keeping reading for some timely advice and top tips.

One of the best ways to care for your tyres is to use winter wheels. These are stands which replace your wheels, allowing you to store the wheels inside away from weather damage. Winter wheels will also add to your caravan security as they immobilise your caravan.

If you don't want to use winter wheels, there are a few other things you can do to protect your tyres over winter:

  • To stop the tyres developing flat spots make sure you rotate them every few weeks.

  • Raise your wheels off the ground - this will also prevent flat spots.

  • Use a caravan wheel cover to protect the tyres from weather damage.

  • Ensure that the tyre pressure is maintained over the winter.

  • Clean the tyres regularly with ordinary caravan shampoo and don't use a pressure washer.

  • If you do remove the tyres, make sure you store them upright but remember to turn them every few weeks and keep out of sunlight.
