Cleaning black mould from awning

by Colin
(Hull)

We went away to Cornwall for 6 weeks this year and on taking the awning down, we noticed black mould on it. I did the following to get rid of it.

1 - I washed the 4 separate awning panels in a solution of 2 oz bleach, 4 oz baby soap flakes and 1 gallon of warm water. This cleaned the panels.

2 - I then cleaned the black mould off by sprinkling bicarbonate of soda over the spots and using a solution of 10 parts bleach to 90 parts warm water worked the soda into the spots with a little bit of elbow grease - this method worked.

3 - I then rinsed off all residue and hung on the washing line to dry.

4 - Finally I treated the awning with a well known re-proofer. It's now as good as new!
