From: Pauline Question: Towing Courses Do you know where I can learn to tow a caravan? I live just outside Birmingham.Hi Pauline The Camping & Caravan Club run towing courses which might be suitable for you. The course lasts one day but you will have to join the Club before attending the course. The cost of the course is £90.00. There are also courses at Coventry on 28th Feb - 1st March and again at Coventry on 7 - 8 March. If you go to the Camping and Caravan Club website (www.campingandcaravanclub.co.uk) you will find all the details you need there. Alternatively, if you are going to any Caravan Shows or Exhibitions, they often hold taster courses which might be helpful and they will be able to give you more information. |
From: Campbell Question: Black Algae in Toilet Flush I have ugly black contaminants in the flush tank of my toilet. It looks like dark algae. What has caused it and how do I get rid of it?Hi Campbell Regarding the black algae in your toilet flush tank - it is just where the water has been standing for a while because the toilet has not been used recently. The best way to get rid of the black algae is to use Milton Fluid (the fluid you use to sterilise babies bottles etc) which is pretty inexpensive. Put the Milton diluted with water in the flush tank and leave for 24 hours. Flush through the Milton and rinse again with water. Hopefully this will eradicate any algae left in the tank. If this doesn't work please contact us again and we will think of something else!! |

Question: Bathroom Roof Vent
On stopping for lunch in our caravan on a recent trip we found the roof vent in the bathroom was no longer there. It was definitely closed before we left and our journey was on motorways and A roads so no chance of it being hit by a branch and no damage to the roof. The only part left is the leading handle which is still in the closed position. It could not have been an attempted break-in as we did not leave the caravan at any stage. Have you any ideas what could have happened as my dealer tells me that Swift would not cover it under warranty? Our caravan is only two years old.
Hi Keith
Thanks for contacting us and we hope you enjoyed our website.
On many journeys this year we have passed and seen many caravans with their roof vents open fully or slightly open. It does not take much to rip off a roof vent when travelling.
The only explanation for your roof vent coming off would be that it was badly fitted but this would be hard to prove. We will put this question on our website and see if anyone else has had a similiar problem who might be able to shed some light on it.
Would it be worth contacting Swift direct just to see what they have to say?

From: Sue Question: New to Tourers & Site Near Chester We have just bought our very first caravan - we have always used statics before. Can you recommend any sites close to Chester and have you any tips for us?Hi Sue Have a good look through our website - click on the Site Map which lists all the pages available. We have many tips and tricks to help you which are often sent to us by other caravanners or used by ourselves.
I think your best bet for a caravan site near Chester would be to try out the Chester Fairoaks Caravan Club site - I have read very good reports on it. Have a look on the Caravan Club website for more information. |

Question: CRiS
How can I find out if my caravan is CRiS registered?
Hi Carolyn
The best way for you to find out if your caravan is CRiS registered is to contact them direct. If you click on the Site Map on our website and then go to the CRiS page, all their contact details are there. You will just need to give them all the details of your caravan and they will be able to check for you.

Question: Caravan Manual
I have recently bought a secondhand 1990 Elddis Tornado 4 berth as my first caravan. How can I get hold of a manual for this caravan?
Hi Graham
With regard to your question about obtaining a manual for your caravan, you should try contacting Elddis direct. They should be able to provide you with the manual you need. I did this with my first caravan, an ABI Monza, which came with no manual so I contacted them and they provided one for a small fee.
If you get no joy from Elddis, you could try contacting the Elddis Owners Club. Both their contact details can be found on our website.

From: John Question: Caravan Clubs?? I am new to caravanning and have found your website very useful. I am wondering whether or not to join a caravan club but am confused as to which one is the better. Can you help?Hi John Regarding the caravan clubs, we have never joined one as we have never thought it to be of benefit to ourselves. Saying that, if you want to go to a particular caravan site which only allows club members, then you will have to join that particular club. I would suggest having a look around their websites to see which offers you the most relevant benefits/offers together with members-only caravan parks which you are likely to visit. Hope this helps!! |
From: Gill Question: Fully Serviced Pitch We own a 20+ year old Swift Challenger. Our water supply is from a pump submersed into a water container. Is there any way that we could be able to make use of a fully serviced pitch? We really do not know how they work. We have had our caravan for 5 years and love it - we would love it even more if we didn't have to fill up the water and empty the waste!!
Hi Gill If you have a 40 litre Aquaroll you can use an Aquaroll adaptor which you can buy from Halfords. The adaptor simply fits on to the service pitch tap while the other end fits on to your Aquaroll. As soon as the water drops below a certain level in the Aquaroll it is automatically replenished.
As for the waste water from the caravan, simply direct your waste pipes into the drain facility on your pitch.
You will probably have to pay a little extra for a fully serviced pitch but they are definitely worth it!!! |

Question: Piper Clubman 415
Hello, for nostalgic reasons I am trying to locate a brochure/image of a Piper Clubman 415 from around 1979 onwards. It was manufacturerd by Cosalt under the Abbey brand and I would be grateful for any help or guidance you could give.
Many thanks in advance, Chris.
Hi Chris
I am not sure if there is a separate owners club for Cosalt caravans but if you click on the Caravan Owners Club page on our website you will find the Abbey Owners club information. It might be worth contacting them to see if they can advise you. If you get no joy there, please contact us again and will will think again!

Question: Washing Up!
Hi, I have a question! We have only had a caravan for a year now and I have noticed that when on site I seem to be the only one using my caravan to wash my dishes as most other caravanners use the on-site facilities. Is there any reason for this??
Julie
Hi Julie
We usually wash up in the caravan sink unless we have something to wash which is greasy or rather large. I suppose people use the on-site facilities so they don't have to keep re-filling their aquaroll and emptying their waste.
Just do whatever you want & don't worry about anyone else!
